Erica - I have always sewn, having learnt from my mother, although I hated school lessons – all that pinning and tacking took forever. I made my own clothes as a teenager, dabbled in embroidery and I would always sew my own curtains. I started quilting by accident about 10 years ago. A friend and I wanted to try our hands at lace-making but the course was full, so we decided to do the Patchwork and Quilting course instead, almost on a whim. I have never looked back - and I have yet to try lace-making.
The City and Guilds Certificate in Patchwork & Quilting has made a big impact on my work, I am particularly excited by shape and pattern and I now dye or paint most of the fabrics that I use. I love hand quilting and embellishment but I am working more on my lovely Janome 6605P machine to try and keep up with the flow of ideas.
